Boys And Their Toys

Tony Scopel Posted onNovember 29, 2020November 29, 2020 Comments are off 839 Views

How many times have you heard the phrase, “Boys and Their Toys?“ How about, “You can sperate the men from the boys by the price of their toys!” I bet you have heard both. The photo shown left is a Ferrari showroom in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Ferrari, which is an Italian luxury sports car that uses the iconic symbol of a ‘Prancing Horse’, introduced its first signature sports car in 1947.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the travel site put out a call to send pics of your favorite cars – past and present. There was no shortage of submitted photos. This article will show several of our followers, mostly male of course, their motoring toys! Sit back, kick your feet up, and enjoy the dialog that goes along with some pretty awesome cars.

Chase and his 4 legged friend enjoy riding around in this mile-high owned 2014 Impreza WRX. Subaru wanted to compete in the sports car arena. They made their competition stand up and take immediate notice.

Subaru’s WRX packs a wallop with its turbo charged 2.5L – all wheel drive powertrain that produces 265 horses. Add a five speed manual transmission {no automatic offered} and this street rocket has a top end speed up around 155 MPH – straight out of the factory.

The WRX’s engine compartment is quite impressive with its high performance powerhouse. Who knew they could pack so much power into a smaller engine.

The stylish interior matches the car’s purpose. The dash and instrument panel are set-up for racing mode. The cars cockpit includes nicely accented lighting that gives its a sporty look.

The car’s interior has a professional racing look which will boost the drivers confidence. I personally like the WRX’s two tone – doubled stitched high back leather bucket seats. The passenger seats look quite comfy as well. Overall, Subaru’s WRX is a very attractive car inside and out!

Chase takes a lot of pride in keeping his car in great shape and it shows. It will provide him with many years of pleasurable cruising experiences at the posted speed limit… wink – wink.

Chuck is from Northern Colorado and is the proud owner of a 2016 Shelby 350 GT Mustang. He has challenged his high performance car at Colorado’s Bandimere Speedway. It wasn’t a let down by any means.

The Ford Mustang has a reputation for being a highly competitive muscle car. The Shelby 350 GT features a 5.2L – 526 horsepower engine backed by a 6 speed manual transmission.

This high performance street machine has the potential to run the quarter mile at a 12.5 ETA – 117 MPH. The 350 GT Shelby can run with the best of them.

Charles is testing his car’s capabilities by going to Bandimere’s open drag night. Being an armature quarter-miler, he is trying to achieve the Shelby’s factory quarter mile specs.

After several runs and a thumbs up, Chuck is getting closer to his desired elapse time. He dials in just under the car’s capabilities. The official time slip shown right [Car #799], recorded a run time of 13.067 at 107 miles per hour. There is doubt that chuck will hit his goal! “Go get them big buddy!”

The travel site is viewed in all four corners of the world. When we ask our followers to participate in featured editions, we usually get quite a few responses. This special segment is no exception.

Living in Austria, Rudi is one of our loyal followers. He submitted a pic of his mint condition 2001 Mercedes SLK Class – 230 Kompressor. Ironically the ‘SLK’ stands for “Sportlich – Leight – Kurz” (translation; Sporty – Light – Short).

Rudi takes full advantage of the Kompressor’s retractable roof. Especially when touring around Central Europe’s Alpine Region. A 360 degree view of this beautiful landscape can’t be beat!

Having a supercharged – 2.3L engine makes it easy to get around. I wonder if Rudi gets many speeding tickets? We will have to ask him.

Take a look at that shine! By looking at the photos provided, this car is well taken care of. Another nice thing about owning a Mercedes SLK 230 is the wife also enjoys driving around in it as well. Mercedes Benz is a world class manufacturer who appeals to many people looking for a comfort and well performing car.

Thank you Rudi for sharing photos and providing information of your prize possession. I am sure our readers have enjoyed learning about your car. I know we are in different time zones but again, your participation is greatly appreciated! Stay safe and healthy.

Stay tuned everyone.

Tom comes to us from an up and coming Colorado-Front Range community. His love for cars can be proven with the following photos. Tom is sharing several of his past and present cars with us. We will try to provide accurate makes, models and years. Here goes nothing!

This 1936 classic Chevy Coupe – 2 door hardtop is a popular model for car lots of collectors. And Tom is one of them.

In today’s market, this particular car being in descent shape would fetch up to 45,000 dollars. Tom had this car looking pretty good. By the way, do you think that’s a beer he’s tipping?

It looks as if Tom made a few modifications to his 1957 Chevy 3100 series pickup. Not sure if it had a factory 235 {V6} or 265 {V8} cubic inch engine or did he replace it all together.

The originally sticker with standard equipment was priced at $1,430 to $2,435. Now a days and depending on any restoration done, you can expect to pay in the low 40s up to 80 thousand dollars. If foresight was as good as hindsight, Tom would have made a bundle of cash on his investment.

One of America’s most beloved classic cars is Chevy’s 1955 – 2 door Belair. Car enthusiast rate this particular vehicle as one of the most desired collectables. The ’55’ came with several engine options. One option was a 235 Cubic inch – OHC inline 6. The other was a 265 Overhead Valve V8 small block engine that produced 162 horse power. The inline 6 came standard with a 3-speed manual synchromesh transmission. The V8 came with a 2-speed automatic – Power Glide transmission that was considered state-of-the art in its time.

I am sure this 1965 Mustang is one on Tom’s pride and joys. Dearborn, Michigan was Mustang’s initial birth place. Tom’s red Mustang had the well-known long nose, mid-size cab and short backend.

The “65′” came standard with a small block 289 Cubic inch engine . The 2-barrel carburetor produced 200 horse power and the 4-barrell generated 271. Knowing Tom, there is no doubt in my mind he did a few modifications to his Mustang.

Unfortunately we are approaching the article’s space limit. We here at the travel site received a multitude of photos and hate to leave anybody out. So, here are a few more pics of “Boys and their Toys”.

This photo was sent to us from a Mile High state Colorado follower. This well kept 1955 – 1st generation T-Bird is quite stunning. The owner had this beauty for several years but decided to sell it. I bet he got a ‘pretty’ penny for it!

Scott, who is another Colorado boy, shows off his pair of Mercedes. The SUV is a 2011 ML500 and the sports coupe is a 2005 SL500. Scott keeps both of his toys in fabulous condition.

Last but not least. From up-state New York, Mike’s 56 Chevy Belaire is a true classic. Mike worked hard on getting this gem in mint shape.

Chevy’s 1955, 56, and 57 Belairs are a credit to good ole American motoring ingenuity. I bet Mike loves cruising around in this beauty! Thank you Mike for sharing your prized possession with us!

I want to start by giving a big shout out to all the people who submitted their photos. We here at ‘You, Me and The Dock’ really appreciate it. We couldn’t bring these types of great articles without your participation. With that said, we would like for you all to stay tuned for our next travel article. One of our adventurous followers visited an exciting airplane show in Beaumont, Texas. We can’t wait to tell you about it!

By the way, I have a Toy of my own!
