In the words of Dr. Seuss, “OH! The Places You’ll Go! You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”
Gay Isis here with You, Me and The Dock. It’s been awhile, but I want to share my latest travel experience. When taking a road trip to get a dental checkup, you just never know where you may end up! I’d like to share some of the events that we encountered.
We left Loveland, CO for the sole purpose of going to Los Algodones, Mexico to visit a dental clinic. Our route took us through Albuquerque, Phoenix and on into Yuma, AZ., which is just 7 miles from Los Algodones just off US Highway 80.
Most people park at the border and walk across (pictured right). They too are taking advantage of the dental, optical and prescription offerings at very affordable prices! The town has an estimated population of 4,000, but swells with people from all over the world enjoying want Los Algodones offers. The traditional Mexican cultural is plentiful with authentic food, art and Mexico’s signature drink, Tequila!
The photo shown below – left, is a local vendor displaying all of their goods. Bartering is a method of business that brings together people who are selling and wanting to buy. He overheard us mention tequila and introduced us to his tasting room in the back part of the store. We tried a few samples and decided on one. We negotiated a good price and went on our way very satisfied. You are allowed to bring back one bottle per person across the border.
Our next stop was to the Sani Dental Group for our check-ups, (see photo below). The Sani Dental Clinic was very clean, professional, efficient and affordable. It was a very busy Saturday and we have an appointment. But with all the walk-ins, we still had somewhat of a wait. However, we met some very interesting people while patiently waiting. There were quite a few Canadians, as well as American citizens from all over the country. Many people have been coming here for all their medical needs for years.
There was a 45 minute wait to cross the border and back onto US soil. There were quite a few people visiting Los Algodones today looking for goods and services. The temperature was in the mid-70s and felt fantastic. Since we knew we had somewhat of a wait, I decided to get a new pair of frames for my driving glasses. We located a optical clinic that looked to be very professional. The optometrist retrieved my prescription from my existing glasses and in 2 hours I had my new frames. I always wanted to have a pair of purple framed glasses!
After we crossed the border, my husband knows I like to play penny slots. We decided to stay at the Quechan Casino Resort which was only two minutes away from Los Algodones. We had an
awesome room, the food was good, the casino was bustling with life, and the resort was beautiful. Even though the “house won”, it was a great time!
Since both my husband and I are retired and have no real time limits, San Diego, CA is only a 3 hour drive from Yuma, AZ. We decided to head west and see what our next adventure will hold for us. Stay Tuned!
