The Ft Myers Beach Library Sandcastles

The Ft Myers Beach Library Sandcastles will be quite the exhibit. Not only can you check out books, but enjoy many unique displays as well. When stepping off the elevator on the 3rd floor, to the left is a corner filled with one of the island’s greatest assets and that is its sand.

The sandlot-like area has always had a special theme. However, in recent years the current display has been in need of some reconstruction. Here is where edthesandman, a.k.a. Ed Reed III comes to the rescue. Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, edthesandman is an multifaceted artist who has earned several awards throughout his years as a sand sculptor.

Edtheandman has been been featured on numerous media outlets including local publications, news channels and most social media outlets. If you walk down the beach on any given day, you could find edtheandman sculpting one of his magnificent castles.

The Ft Myers Beach Library came to a mutual agreement with edthesandman to create three amazing sandcastles. And of course, “You, Me and The Dock” was there to capture it all. Edthesandman put together a plan to create three specific sandcastle designs. From there he takes a mental image and begins to slowly sculpt them from top-to-bottom.

With the island’s sweeping tides, edthesandman worked his magic for three long weeks. He begins by packing layers upon layers of sand. He then starts sculpting the castle’s towering peaks. With every precise move, he carves extraordinary shapes with the greatest of detail.

People were constantly shuffling on and off the elevator. They would stop and take a few moments to watch in amazement while edthesandman worked his magic.

Edtheandman uses the simplest of tools to master his creations. They include a scraper, carving blade, pointed tool, a blow-tube and a spray bottle to only mention a few.

As the castle begins to take shape, so does his imagination. From the stairs to the rounded towers – drawbridge and doors, the castle starts to represent an era of times past. The process seems a bit slow, but the outcome is absolutely amazing.

The days are quickly winding down. Edtheandman is getting closer to completing all three of the Ft Myers Beach Library Sandcastles. We are holding back on showing the finished product. We decided to unveil them in the attached video.

The Ft Myers Beach Library was very fortunate to have edthesandmen reconstruct their sandlot display. These three sandcastles are works of art and will be on show for all to view. When in the area, it is highly recommended to visit this one-of-a kind Library.

The following video captures multiple clips and photos of Ed sculpting his three sandcastles. The video spans over three plus weeks of perseverance and hard work. They are now on display at the Ft Myers Beach Library during visiting hours. So, sit back and enjoy the video!
