The Na Pali Coast Boat Tour wasn’t an adventure where you take expensive camera and video equipment with you. Blue Ocean Tours made it very clear that this was going to be a rough ride. With that said, this entire adventure was photographed and filmed via cell phones.
When our captain stopped to give everyone a rest, I made the best of it. Why not take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful water? Like they say, “You only live once!”
The Na Pali Coast is absolutely gorgeous and especially when viewing it from several hundred yards off shore. Not all of it’s shoreline is golden sand beaches. The towering cliffs and rolling peaks make for a picturesque backdrop for any Hollywood scene.
Just about a mile from Kikia’ola Small Boat Harbor, we came upon a pod of Spinner Dolphins. Having to hold on tightly, I didn’t dare take the chance on taking photos. However, someone in our party managed to shoot some video for us.
After being entertained by some of the local aquatic life, we moved further down the coast. The ride was a bit rough but again, very beautiful.
The tour took us south along the Na Pali Coast. There are several famous water-born arches like Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas and La Portada {The Gateway} in Chile. Kauai has the Sea Arch. It’s probably not as well-known as the others, but is still a fabulous site!
Our captain pulled up and gave everyone a chance to take a photo with the Arch as a backdrop. The beautiful shade of blue provided by the Pacific Ocean against the layers of strata that defines the composition of minerals that form the cliffs, made for a picture perfect postcard!
My lovely wife and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a picture! After this great photo stop, we again headed south.
Our next stops included a few caves. These carved out caverns where damp, dark, and had a mystic feel about them. Being filled with seawater that had no reflection of light, made it that more mysterious.
A couple of the caves have waterfalls in them. The rain coming from the mountain tops finds its way through crevices in the cave’s ceiling.
Its nice to know that the Zodiac boats have reinforced rubber sides. Besides the Captain’s experience, this keeps everyone aboard safe from a possible punctures from the rugged walls.
One of the last stops before heading back to port was a chance to snorkel. This was my favorite part of the tour. I have been to Hawaii before, but never snorkeled until today.
The weather was cooperating which kept the water that much clearer. The water temp was in the mid 80s and the air was 90-plus or minus a few degrees. A great time was had by all!
This is the final chapter of our Kauai, Hawaii trip. This particular adventure offered so many different experiences. From dangerous hikes and historic sites, to exploring beautiful shoreline and exotic terrain. The following video will summarize our day on the water and then some. Until next time, Aloha everyone and we will see you soon!
