This particular travel article has a slight twist to it. Children go on vacation with their parents every year. And like most families, the parents decide where they will spend their time away. With that in mind, we here at You, Me and The Dock wants to hear a new perspective on a California vacation experience.
Isabelle Bothwell is a 12 year old girl who lives in Nevada. She took a trip with her family to Ventura, California. She contacted the travel site and asked if we wanted to see her essay. There is nothing better than a child’s view point on a family vacation. Sit back and enjoy the read!
The travel blog you are about to read is pretty much in its original form. The only editing done was a few misspelled words, commas and periods, and some reformatting. Besides that, its all Isabelle’s writing.
My California Vacation
When I was told that I was going on a trip to California, I was happy and excited. My mom chased me to my room because the second she told me about our trip, I sprinted to my room so I could pack. I didn’t sleep at all because she told me right before I went to bed. That night I couldn’t sleep because I was so excited to go to California.
The next morning, my mom came in my room and said, “Time to get up”. I was so excited that I almost fell off my bed. My sister started to scream because she was really excited. We packed up and got on the road because it was going to be 8 hours and 30 minutes in the car with very few stops. So, I took a nap.
Hours later I woke up because I was thirsty and had to go to the bathroom. I said to mom, “I need a drink and go to the bathroom”. Mom said, “Ok. I will get off at the next stop”. Once we stopped, I climbed over my little siblings and ran in because I had to go to the bathroom really bad. Mom got drinks and snacks while my dad pumped gas in the car.
7 Hours later
My mom said, “We will be in California in only 30 more minutes”. I jammed to some music with my mom and looked out of my window and counted all the cars until I got to 100. I didn’t know what to do to help pass the time. My little sister woke back up and said, “Mom, are we almost there?” Mom said, “Yes, like in 20 minutes!” So, my sister just ate a snack and watched Barbie. We got to our hotel. Mom stopped on the side of our hotel so the people with the cart could unload our luggage.
Once they did that, me and mom and my little siblings got out. We went to check in while my dad parked the car. We went in and my mom checked us in and called my dad to say, “Go to room 108”, which was our room. It was super nice. It had one room with two beds, one big bathroom, small counter space and a medium size living room. Once my dad came, we went to the lobby and looked around.
We got some dinner to eat and then went to our room and got ready for bed. The next morning we got ready and went to breakfast. After breakfast, we went to our room and relaxed for a little.
We then went to Venice Beach and walked around. I got a picture of Venice Beach signed by the person I got it from. We played in the water and did that every day. I missed doing this when I lived here with my family. Now we come here for vacation and like it a lot.
10 Days later
It was time to go and I was sad because it was so much fun. My little sister and little brother cried because they didn’t want to leave. I helped my mom pack up and make sure that we had everything. My dad went to bring the car closer so the person with our luggage wouldn’t have to walk far. I stood out in front of the hotel staring at it and my eyes started to tear up.
When we stated to drive off, me and my little siblings started bursting with tears because we didn’t want to leave. When we got home, we unpacked and relaxed. I told mom that I wanted to go back there again.
I hope you enjoyed my story of my family trip,
